The rise of new sharing economy in America: sharing nanny

Pingwest, Aug. 22 - in some metropolitan areas of the United States, the minimum wage is at least close to $15 an hour, and some families are looking for shared nannies through various online channels.

The Toronto based company, nanny lane, launched the matchmaking service earlier this year, one of careguide's many websites. The company recently secured $6 million in new financing and plans to double its workforce to 80 in the next year. John Philip Green, who calls himself careguide's "chief executive dad," says he can see his website bringing the sharing economy to childcare.

To use this site, families and nannies will publish their materials to illustrate their needs and experiences. Then, they can communicate through the website and interview people who may meet their requirements. This service is free of charge. The company also manages compensation and other services for about 1200 families at a monthly fee of $80. Nanny Lane focuses on markets in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Houston, but it can also serve people all over the country - its employees will match homes and nannies in remote areas.

The nanny Lane platform does not allow families to offer babysitters hourly wages below the minimum wage in their area. The company encourages families to pay a third less than a nanny, rather than a half less. For example, if a family pays $3000 a month for a nanny, and they choose to share the nanny with another family, the family is advised to pay $2000 a month. As a result, babysitters get a total of $4000 a month, reflecting the increased responsibility of babysitters in caring for children from two families.

Nanny sharing is making it affordable for many families who never wanted to hire a nanny. A spokeswoman for nanny Lane said sharing a nanny could save more than $13000 a year for a family.
